Fun Fall Activities in Michigan by Anne Carpenter

FROLIC IN THE FALL: Enjoying a Brand-New Season!

By: Anne Carpenter

For years, I never did much in the way of fun activities in the fall, with the exception of the big Resident Appreciation Party that Huron Towers held on the third Saturday in September, but 2019 was the last year we had it, because the pandemic wiped out so many activities. I never did things like bob for apples at an orchard or go on hayrides, so fall was just an ordinary season accented by beautiful colors of orange, yellow, red and gold. But with the new manager at Huron Towers (who I became fast friends with) taking the helm, there is suddenly new life pumped into the Huron Towers social scene.

Several activities are being planned to start with an evening pool party which I plan to attend. If the weather holds up, I can try an evening swim and enjoy socializing and refreshments. Then, on September 3rd, there will be an activity where people can paint flowerpots, then keep the plants-it will be held in the garden.

On the 11th, there will be a yoga session on the plaza between the towers; several years ago, a psychoanalyst who had a practice in the Towers held a free yoga class which I enjoyed so I’ll be glad to try that again.

At last but not least, there will be a yard sale on the 25th. This is a new set of activities that we haven’t had, so it will be fun to take part in them. Beginning in June, I have been helping in the garden for rent credit almost every day with guidance from a staff member and master gardener and that will continue through September. I also hope to attend at least one of the free Penny Stamps lectures which are free and are at the Michigan Theater on Thursday evenings. I was so excited to find out about all the new things going on that don’t require a bus transfer or A-Ride and that are free, except for the yard sale. This fall should be much more fun than I have had in a while!
