Section 504 is not special education law, but a different act that offers different protections for students with disabilities.
Section 504 is part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, a civil rights statute that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. Students are protected in their access to academics, social engagement, extracurriculars, sports, events, and other school-sponsored activities. Students who might not qualify for an IEP may be covered by Section 504. Register to join us on December 4 if you have questions like:

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability – this includes students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
For students with a disability who are not eligible for an IEP, a 504 plan provides equal access to the general education curriculum.
Who should attend? Families with a child, teen, or young adult with a disability or learning challenge; school staff, other community members.
